Protein function and interaction
Protamines are the most abundant DNA-binding proteins in the nucleus of sperm. Protamines have a role in the condensation of the genome and in the inhibition of transcriptional activity during spermatogenesis (Balhorn, 1982 PMID: 7096440). Prm1 was isolated as a partner of SEMG1 in yeast two-hybrid experiments (Meklat et al. 2009 PMID: 19036087).
