The four members of the XAGE sub-family, of the GAGE family, are located at Xp11.22 and Xp11.21.
XAGE1 has been reported to be expressed in sarcoma, lung and melanocytic cancers at the mRNA level. XAGE1 has been reported to be expressed in normal testis, colon, kidney, liver, pituitary, placenta and arterial endothelium, and in lung cancers at the protein level.
Spontaneous humoral and cellular responses against XAGE1 have been detected in cancer patients.
The function of XAGE1 is unknown.
