Protein function and interaction
CDCA1 (NUF2) participates to the Ndc80 complex, that directly connects kinetochores to spindle microtubules and is composed by the Hec1 (Ndc80)/Nuf2 and Spc24/Spc25 dimers, playing an indispensable role in proper chromosome alignment and segregation during mitosis (DeLuca et al., 2002 PMID: 12438418; Ciferri et al., 2005 PMID: 15961401; Mikami et al., 2005 PMID: 15713649; DeLuca et al., 2005 PMID: 15548592; Wei et al., 2005 PMID: 15809444; Liu et al., 2006 PMID: 17030981; Wilson-Kubalek et al., 2008 PMID: 18794333). Nuf2 is required for retention of the checkpoint proteins Mad1 and Mad2 to kinetochores (DeLuca et al., 2003 PMID: 14654001)and for the association of hMps1 to the kinetochore (Stucke et al., 2004 PMID: 15235793). NUF2 can be phosphorylated by Aurora A and B (Tien et al., 2004 PMID: 14602875); the activity of the Ndc80 complex is regulated by Aurora B kinase phosphorylation of the Ndc80 subunit (Cheeseman et al., 2006 PMID: 17129783).
