Otoancorin is predicted to have superhelical structures with ARM-type repeats and may function as superhelical lectins to bind the carbohydrate moieties of extracellular glycoproteins (Sathyanarayana et al., 2009 PMID: 19128473). OTOA is defective in autosomal recessive deafness DFNB22, a form of sensorineural hearing loss (Zwaenepoel et al., 2002 PMID: 11972037).
