Protein function and interaction
SSX1 may be fused to the SYT gene as a result of the t(X;18) translocation in synovial sarcoma (Clark et al., 1994).
SSX proteins appear to be transcriptional regulators, whose actions are mediated primarily through association with or recruitment of Polycomb group repressors by the SSX-RD domain, mapped to the C-terminal of SSX proteins (Ladanyi, 2001 PMID: 11607825). LIM homeobox protein LHX4 was identified among the proteins that interact with the SSX C-terminal repression domain (de Bruijn et al., 2008 PMID: 17667940).
