Elovl4 is the elongase for retinal long fatty acid synthesis (McMahon & Kedzierski, 2009 PMID: 19666930). Mutations in ELOVL4 gene are associated to Stargardt macular dystrophy in humans (Zhang et al., 2001 PMID: 11138005).
