Protein function and interaction
ATAD2 (ANCCA) mediates estrogen stimulated expression of key cell cycle regulators likely via its ATP-driven protein complex-remodeling function (Zou et al.,2007 PMID: 17998543). In prostate cancer, ATAD2 mediates specific androgen receptor signaling (Zou et al., 2009 PMID: 19318566).
ATAD2 was shown to be an E2F target gene. The pRB-E2F pathway regulates ATAD2 expression. ATAD2 binds the MYC oncogene and stimulates its transcriptional activity, linking the E2F and MYC pathways and contributing to the development of aggressive cancer through the enhancement of MYC-dependent transcription (Ciró et al., 2009 PMID: 19843847).
