SSX proteins appear to be transcriptional regulators, whose actions are mediated primarily through association with or recruitment of Polycomb group repressors by the SSX-RD domain, mapped to the C-terminal of SSX proteins (Ladanyi, 2001 PMID: 11607825). ).
