Gene Identification
NR6A1 was identified by molecular methods (Süsens & Borgmeyer,1996 PMID:8982251; Kapelle et al., 1997 PMID:9177477; Lei et al., 1997 PMID:9134503 ) and was characterized as a cancer-testis gene by Mathieu et al., 2013 (PMID:23532770).
Gene structure and chromosomal localization
Using FISH analysis the GCNF (NR6A1) gene was localized to chromosome 9 at the q33-34.1 locus. Southern blot analysis of the human genomic DNA indicates that GCNF is most likely a unique gene (Agoulnik 1998 PMID:9537518). The cDNA encodes a protein of 476 amino acids with a predicted relative molecular weight of 53990 (Süsens & Borgmeyer, 1996 PMID:8982251).
Chromosome band: 9q33.3
