Protein function and interaction
PAGE 4 may be involved in a signal transduction pathway, with regulatory effect on the lipoprotein lipase (LPL) gene (Iavarone et al., 2002 PMID: 12489849).
PAGE4 expression is up-regulated by TGF-beta1 in primary prostatic stromal and epithelial cells (Sampson et al., 2007 PMID: 17113629). PAGE4 modulates the androgen receptor signaling in prostate cancer cells (Sampson et al., 2012 PMID:22885105).
Zeng et al., 2011 (PMID: 21357425) described PAGE4 as an intrinsically disordered protein (IDP). IDPs lack stable 3D structure under physiological conditions. They are involved in signaling and transcriptional regulation, where binding to multiple partners and high-specificity/low-affinity interactions play a crucial role. PAGE4 contains a Nuclear Localization Signal (NLS), is a putative DNA-binding protein possibly involved in aborting stress-induced apoptosis.
