Protein function and interaction
AKAP4 is the principal component of the sperm tail fibrous sheath; it acts as an anchoring protein that tethers a cAMPdependent protein kinase near its substrate. AKAP4 has a role in completing the fibrous sheath assembly. AKAP4 binds the RIa and RIIa subunits of PKA, AKAP3, and two Fibrous Sheath Interacting Proteins (FSIP1 and FSIP2) (Brown et al., 2003 PMID: 12606363 by similarity).
