Protein function and interaction
TSP50 might represent a novel type of threonine protease (Xu et al., 2007 PMID: 17283160) and may perform a critical biologic function in mammalian spermatogenesis (Xu et al., 2004 PMID: 15491742). TSP50 promoter is negatively governed by p53, suggesting that it could be an oncogene participating in the onset and progression of cancer (Xu et al., 2007 PMID: 17283160). TSP50 transcription activation is directly regulated by BORIS. BORIS-induced expression of TSP50 is governed by accessibility and binding of BORIS to the TSP50 promoter (Kosaka-Suzuki et al., 2011 PMID:21659515).
