Protein function and interaction

NXF2 binds RNA, localizes to the nuclear envelope, and exhibits RNA export activity (Herold et al., 2000 PMID: 11073998), playing additional roles in the cytoplasmic localization of mRNAs through interactions with cytoplasmic motor proteins (Takano et al., 2007 PMID: 17403691). FMRP (fragile X mental retardation protein) and NXF2 co-express in the mouse male germ cells and hippocampal neurons. FMRP and NXF2 may act in concert to promote the nucleocytoplasmic transport of specific mRNAs in male germ cells and neurons (Lai et al., 2006 PMID: 16790844). In lung cancer cell, NXF2 may regulate microtubule nucleation and/or anchoring events in the mitotic spindle (Cappell et al., 2012 PMID:22869527).
