Protein function and interaction
TSSK6 (SSTK) possesses intrinsic protein kinase activity. Coimmunoprecipitation experiments revealed that TSSK6 specifically forms stable complexes with the heat shock proteins HSP90 and HSC70. “In vitro”, TSSK6 phosphorylates histones H1, H2A, H2AX, and H3. In the mouse, TSSK6 plays a requisite role at late stages of spermiogenesis (Spiridonov et al., 2005 PMID: 15870294).
