SSX-4 expression in cancer cell lines interferes with tumor cell migration and/or reduce cell viability (Caballero et al., 2013 PMID:2362551).

SSX proteins appear to be transcriptional regulators, whose actions are mediated primarily through association with or recruitment of Polycomb group repressors by the SSX-RD domain, mapped to the C-terminal of SSX proteins (Ladanyi, 2001 PMID: 11607825). ). LIM homeobox protein LHX4 was identified among the proteins that interact with the SSX C-terminal repression domain (de Bruijn et al., 2008 PMID: 17667940).
