Protein function and interaction
HEMGN plays an important role in hematopoietic development (Yang et al., 2001 PMID:11404085). HEMG functions as a positive regulator of erythroid/megakaryocytic differentiation in myeloid cells associated with the induction of GATA-1 and its target genes (Ding et al., 2010 PMID:20564185). HEMGN binds to and enhances the protein stability of NPM1 (nucleophosmin ⁄B23) which plays a critical role in the anti-apoptosis of leukaemia cells (Zhang et al., 2012 PMID:22712502).
