Protein function and interaction
CASC5 binds to the hMis12 kinetochore core complex, which is required for normal chromosome alignment and segregation during mitosis (Obuse et al., 2004 PMID: 15502821). CASC5 localizes to kinetochores throughout mitosis and is required for the localization of a subset of outer kinetochore proteins (Cheeseman et al., 2008 PMID: 18045986). CASC5 directly links spindle checkpoint proteins BubR1 and Bub1 to kinetochores and is required for spindle checkpoint and chromosome alignment (Kiyomitsu et al., 2007 PMID: 17981135).
