Protein function and interaction
MAGEA4 C terminal region binds to the oncoprotein gankyrin and appears to supress its oncogenic activity (Nagao et al., 2003). MAGEA4 C terminal region also binds Miz-1 and it is suggested that this interaction has pro apoptotic activity (Sakurai et al., 2004).
MAGE family proteins may enhance ubiquitin ligase activity through recruitment and/or stabilization of the E2 ubiquitin conjugating enzymes at the E3-substrate complex (Doyle et al, 2010 PMID: 20864041).
